It is the mission of Shawnee Development Council, Inc. to enable individuals, families, and communities to determine their needs and obtain the resources required to accomplish their goals of self-sufficiency and a better quality of life.
A Message From Our Executive Director
In the summer of 2005, it was with great pride that the board and staff of Shawnee Development Council, Inc. celebrated 40 years of continuous service to the people of Alexander, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, and Union counties. From the early days of 1964, when a group of far-sighted individuals met to address the issues of southernmost Illinois, through the present day, the staff and board have never lost sight of that early mission.
Shawnee Development Council, Inc. has successfully operated a large number of programs during our 40 years. The focus and dedication of the staff, many who know the need firsthand, has been a driving force in keeping our agency a leader in our service region. They are a committed group of individuals who believe strongly in our programs and goals.
This website has been developed as a resource guide with the public in mind. We hope the information provided will help people understand more about our programs and the assistance that could be available to meet their needs. Included is a brief outline of each program, what it does, how and where to apply.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our board of directors. The board is made up of three individuals from each of the seven counties in our service area. They represent local elected officials, low-income individuals and the private sector. This dedicated group gives of their time and energies to help make Shawnee Development Council, Inc. an icon in the community action realm.
